SM East tennis star Fotopoulos headed to TCU for sophomore year

9066735Prairie Village native and 2012 SM East graduate Mimi Fotopoulos announced this week that she will be transferring from the University of Tennessee to Texas Christian University, where she will be a welcome addition to the Horned Frogs tennis program.

Fotopoulos played her freshman year at Tennessee but announced after the season she would be transferring. She told shawneemissionpost.com last month that she had narrowed her choices to Duke, TCU and Oklahoma, where both her father Sam and brother Chris played.

But TCU’s staff swayed Fotopoulos to make Fort Worth her new home.

“I fell in love with TCU when I came to visit,” Fotopoulos told TCU’s official athletics website. “The combination of strong athletics and academics the school offers is great. [Head coach] Dave Borelli is a fantastic guy, and a great coach. I look forward to getting to work with him.”

Fotopoulos went undefeated her junior and senior seasons at SM East, taking the 6A singles title both years and propelling the Lancers to the team title in 2011.
