Heat advisory in effect today; cooling centers available

Be careful out there today. Prairie Village has sent out a notice that we are under a heat advisory today from now until 7 p.m.

The temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 90s this afternoon with a heat index between 103 and 105. Several government buildings serve as cooling centers when a heat advisory or warning is in effect.

All of the Johnson County library branches, Sylvester Powell Community Center in Mission and the Irene B. French Community Center in Merriam provide a place for residents who need a place to shelter from the heat. The hours of operation vary at each location.

Stay cool!
