Bread & Butter Concepts’ Alan Gaylin, Prairie Village Environmental Committee Member Anne-Marie Hedge, and former Prairie Village City Administrator Barbara Vernon are the recipients of the 2013 Prairie Village Community Spirit Awards, announced during yesterday’s VillageFest celebration.
Gaylin, whose company runs BRGR and Urban Table at Corinth Square and the forthcoming Taco Republic, received the Business Award for his support of the Prairie Village Jazz Festival and the annual Crawfish Festival, in addition his help with local school fundraisers.
Hedge was recognized with the Resident award for her seven years on the Environmental Committee, particularly her volunteer work with the Earth Fair and annual Environmental Community Forum.
Vernon received the Lifetime Spirit award for her years of service to the city, which have continued after her retirement.
Hedge and Vernon weren’t able to attend the ceremony, but Gaylin was on hand for the surprise.
“I had no idea. My wife told I needed to get up and get dressed because we were going to go get pancakes,” he said. “It’s great. Prairie Village makes it easy to give it back — the whole community has given us so much support.”
