Recently graduated SM East soccer star Addison Steiner can now call herself an All-American. Northwestern University-bound Steiner was named to both the 2013 NSCAA High School Girls All-America Team, and the NSCAA High School Girls Scholar All-American Team. She was one of just a few players to receive both honors out of the 80 All-American Girls team members.
“I think my parents were more excited than I was,” Steiner said.
Steiner was eligible for the award after being named to the All-State team back in May, and was also nominated by SM East boys and girls coach Jaimie Kelly.
“When I was told about the award and he was explaining it to me I was like ‘Oh, gosh, this is actually a big deal,” Steiner said.
The awards banquet for will be Aug. 2 in Orlando, Fla., but Steiner will not be able to attend, as she plans to leave for Northwestern the same day.
Steiner was one of two players in the state of Kansas selected on the All-American Team.
