Starlight Theater is documenting SM East graduate Lily Kaufmann’s trip to New York for the 5th Annual National High School Musical Theatre Awards — also known as the “Jimmy Awards.” Check out Starlight’s blog here.

Kaufmann earned the right to make the trip and compete against the winners of 31 other regional musical theatre awards competitions by taking this year’s Blue Star Award for Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role for her portrayal of Janet van de Graff in the Drowsy Chaperone. She’s accompanied on the trip by Blue Star Best Actor winner Patrick Graham of Lee’s Summit North High School.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the students from across the country have been meeting with Broadway performers and producers and preparing for the staging of tonight’s awards ceremony.

Kaufmann will be tending Florida State University in the fall to study music and theatre. Good luck tonight, Lily!
