Indian Hills Middle School social studies teacher Judith Schieszer keeps piling up the awards for her classroom teaching. This time she has won the Outstanding American History Teacher Award from the National Society of Daughters of Colonial Wars.
Representatives of the society visited her classroom before school ended to present the award which was given for “outstanding service by the exemplification and encouragement of patriotism and interest in American history and American heritage.”
Earlier in the year Schieszer won the National Outstanding Teacher Award presented by the Oregon California Trails Association. Schieszer wrote a six-act play about life on the Oregon Trail from the Shawnee Indian Mission through Kansas to the Nebraska border to teach students about economic concepts.
Schieszer has been teaching for more than 30 years and has been in the Shawnee Mission district since 1993.
