SM East graduate selected for prestigious international writers program starting this weekend in Iowa

2013 SM East grad and National Merit Scholar Sarah Goldman is on her way to Iowa City this weekend after being selected to participate in an international creative writing and cultural exchange program.

Goldman will spend two weeks on the campus of the University of Iowa, home of the famed Iowa Writers’ Workshop, to take part in Between the Lines – Arab World. The program brings together young writers aged 16-19 from across the world. Joining Goldman will be 20 other young writers, who are traveling to the midwest from 10 near East countries and seven states.

Goldman says she hopes the program will help her hone her talents and broaden her horizons.

“I think that in order to become a better writer, having new experiences and meeting new kinds of people are really important, because those things help you grow as a person,” she said.

Between the lines is a joint collaboration between the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program (IWP) and the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Congratulations, Sarah — and have a great time!
