Free summer lunches offered at some Shawnee Mission schools

Shawnee Mission School District is offering free lunches for children ages 1 to 18 at several of the district’s schools this summer. The free hot lunches are provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and are prepared and served by the Shawnee Mission food services department.

Roesland Elementary in Roeland Park is one of the participating schools this summer. The lunch service started this week and will continue until July 26. Food service is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No lunches will be served on July 4 or July 5. And no lunches can be served to adults who accompany children.

A significant number of Shawnee Mission students qualify for free or reduced price lunches during the school year. No income guidelines are applied to the summer lunch program. Other schools where lunches will be served this summer include Brookridge, Apache, Comanche, Merriam Park and Shawanoe.

More information about the program can be found on the Shawnee Mission site. A full set of guidelines for the program can be found here.
