New Shawnee Mission superintendent to greet public under OP clock tower in July

Shawnee Mission’s new school superintendent Jim Hinson will hold a public “Meet and Greet” in July under the clock tower in downtown Overland Park.

Hinson, now superintendent in Independence, was hired earlier this year to replace retiring Shawnee Mission superintendent Gene Johnson. He starts the job July 1. Besides the clock tower event, Hinson also is scheduled to be a speaker at a Northeast Johnson County Chamber of Commerce luncheon this summer.

The district’s announcement about the July 17 event in Overland Park follows:

As we look ahead to the 2013-14 school year, we look forward to welcoming Dr. Jim Hinson as the superintendent of the Shawnee Mission School District. Please save the date to meet and greet Dr. Hinson on Wednesday, July 17, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. under the Clock Tower in Downtown Overland Park, 7950 Marty Street.

This event will coincide with the Wednesday Downtown Overland Park Farmers’ Market. Dr. Hinson is looking forward to becoming a part of the Shawnee Mission community and to meeting students, parents, community members, and staff. He will be scheduling opportunities to meet with many groups and will hold some larger community meet-and-greet events. We will provide additional information about community meetings as it becomes available.

If this event is rained out, the alternate date is July 24.
