Prairie Village native emerges the victor on first day of Jeopardy!

A bit of strategy and a bit of knowledge about World War II generals were enough for Prairie Village native Sam Hopkins to emerge the victor from his first day on Jeopardy! Wednesday.

Hopkins was in the lead for most of the game, but four-day champion Mike Lewis was in striking distance as Final Jeopardy arrived. Lewis went in all, but Hopkins bet enough to ensure that if he got the last clue correct, he’d be ahead of Lewis and the other contestant by $2. (The Final Jeopardy answer was Gen. Douglas MacArthur — all three contestants got it right).

The win earns Hopkins the right to return to his lectern today, at 3:30 p.m. on KSHB.
