Local legislators planning for public forum on budget, taxes Saturday

The Kansas legislature headed back to Topeka for a veto session Wednesday — and they’ll be there until a 2014 budget is approved.

And northeast Johnson County residents have a chance to get firsthand accounts of how budget and tax talks have progressed of late at a public forum scheduled for Saturday at Village Church.

Sen. Kay Wolf and Reps. Barbara Bollier, Stephanie Clayton, Melissa Rooker and Emily Perry are planning to hold the session from 10-11 a.m. May 11. They plan on discussing budget issues, the talk about significant reform to the tax structure in Kansas and on giving a legislative update.

The event is open to the public.

(Note, however, that this event is subject to cancelation if the legislators are held up in session in Topeka — we’ll post a piece Friday letting you all know if the session is still on or not.)

UPDATED: Rep. Bollier tells us they’re “100% go” for Saturday.
