‘Tis the season for sports titles, and SM East is off to a strong start.
The girls’ soccer team earned a Sunflower League title Tuesday. And SM East’s boys golf team on Wednesday wrapped up its sixth straight Sunflower League title with a strong showing at the Lawrence Invitational tourney, hosted at Alvamar.
The team’s performance there put them a remarkable 90 strokes ahead of the league’s second place finisher, Olathe East.
Five Lancers were named to the All Sunflower League team: Chase Hanna, Connor Knabe, Evan Bloom, John Sallaz, and Andy Spencer. And Connor Richardson was named to the second team All Sunflower League.
Hanna’s accolades didn’t stop there, though. For the third year in a row, he won the individual Sunflower League championship with a score of 210 over three rounds.
The Lancers will open up play in the qualifying tournament for state Monday. Should they qualify for state, they’ll get to stay close to home: SM East is hosting the state tourney on its home course, Meadowbrook Country Club, starting May 20.
