With draw against Olathe South, Lancers clinch women’s soccer league title

It took a little help from their SM South rivals, but the SM East girls soccer team on Tuesday clinched the Sunflower League regular season title with a 4-4 tie against Olathe South.

The draw was enough for the Lancers to ensure that powerhouse Olathe East — which lost to SM South 2-1 Tuesday — wouldn’t be able to best their 11-1-4 record. SM East looked like it might be on the losing end of Tuesday’s match until senior Addison Steiner found the back of the net with just a minute left in regulation time to tie the game 4-4.

SM East’s only loss of the season came back on April 12, when the were shutout 0-2 against St. Joseph Academy. They tied against Olathe East in early April, and against Incarnate Ward and Pattonville as well.

The team will have its first playoff game next week.

Congrats, Lancers!
