Young runners, 15 and 11, win 10th annual Dragon Dash

Jack Trouve, wearing bib 217, jumped out toward the front of the pack at the start of Saturday’s Dragon Dash.

The unseasonably chilly weather discouraged some of the hearty (this fella included…) from taking to the starting line Saturday for Corinth’s tenth annual Dragon Dash, but it didn’t deter two young runners from putting in winning efforts.

Fifteen year old Leawood resident Jack Trouve, who attends Rockhurst High School, had the overall best time in the 5K at 20:09. And 11 year old Ella Higgins, a Corinth fifth grader, bested the female field with a winning time of 23:31.

Higgins said she’s only been running for about a year — and this actually wasn’t her first victory.

“She trains herself,” said Ella’s father. “Last summer she did her first few 5Ks and then a triathlon and she’s loved it ever since.”

Trouve, who has been running for about two years, said this was his first win.

“It feels great!” he said between breaths at the finish line.

11 year old Ella Higgins was the first female to cross the finish line.
SM East cheerleaders warmed up the crowd with some calisthenics before the start of the race.
