SM East theater department earns 10 Blue Star nominations for Drowsy Chaperone

Janet van de Graff (played by Lily Kaufmann, right) insists she’s ready to give up show business — in less than convincing fashion — in SM East’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone.

Looks like it could be a big year for SM East’s theater department…

Director Brian Cappello has received word from Starlight Theatre’s Blue Star Awards that SM East’s production of the Drowsy Chaperone has received 10 nominations. (The Blue Star Awards — basically the Tony Awards of Kansas City high school musicals — give awards in 17 categories). Last year, the department earned three Blue Star nominations for its production of Bye, Bye Birdie, but won no awards.

The nominations will be revealed next Thursday, May 2.
