For the first time in coach Ermanno Ritschl’s tenure as golf coach at the school, SM East this year will be the host school for the Kansas 6A high school golf championship tourney.
Meadowbrook Country Club in Prairie Village will be the site of the tournament, which will be played Monday, May 20.
SM East would of course love to take home another state title on their home course — provided they make the cut, that is. The Lancers are off to a great start two rounds into the season, and sit atop the Sunflower League after tournaments hosted by SM Northwest and SM East.
The Lancers have seen some strong individual performances as well, with four SM East duffers — Chase Hanna, Connor Knabe, John Sallaz and Andy Spencer — filling out the top four spots in the league’s individual rankings. Knabe and Hanna, who are both signed on to play golf in college next year, took the top two spots in last week’s SM East invitational, also held at Meadowbrook.
