Tomorrow marks one of my favorite days of the year: the return of the Overland Park Farmer’s Market. We’ll spend every Saturday we can strolling the aisle, meeting up with friends, playing in the fountains, and buying lots and lots of local foods. They’ve also got a great line up of entertainment this year, including family-friendly acts like Mister Stinky Feet and Funky Mama. Check out their website here.
I am also looking forward to the return of the Widgeonwood stands starting May 11. If you live near the Village Shops, you may be familiar with their beautiful and high quality goods. Every Saturday from May 11 thru early October Sally and David Calvin of Jefferson City host a mini market under the Village clock tower. Look for their amazing assortment of produce, baked goods, soups, and much more.
The Brookside Farmer’s Market is another great local option, especially for those who prefer organic produce. It begins April 20.
And of course, there is the mother of all local farmer’s market: the City Market. It’s not often that I make the drive all the way downtown, but I’m always glad I did. Sometimes it’s a total zoo, but the variety of stands and the ethnic eateries make up for the craziness. It’s also the only market that’s open year round.
But if you feel like sleeping in on Saturday and still want to buy local produce, the Hen House has a cool page that lists all of their local goods.
