Colonial Church plans city-wide tree planting event to combat drought, snow damage

Speaking of the drought…

Persistent dry conditions wreaked havoc on hundreds of local trees last summer, and the big February snowstorm managed to severely damage several hundred more.

To help mitigate the effects of these events on the local tree stock, Prairie Village’s Colonial Church is putting together a community replanting event:

Both drought and heavy snow have damaged or killed many trees in Prairie Village. On Arbor Day, Friday, April 26, 2013, Colonial Church in Prairie Village is coordinating the “4/1 Earth” community tree event.

Colonial Church will provide and plant a free Redbud seedling (6-12”) to the first ten Prairie Village residents requesting one by calling 913-362-7735. Trained volunteers will come and plant trees at Prairie Village homes between 5-8 pm on Arbor Day.

Residents who wish to order a more mature tree may go to https://www.colonialucc.org/ministrygroups/communitytreeplanting.html.

Benjamin Lawn and Landscape will be placing tree orders and training volunteer planters. The trees will be available for pickup at Colonial Church on Arbor Day between 5-8pm.

All tree orders must be received by Monday, April 22, 2013.
