Food on Friday: What’s in your Easter basket?

By Julia Westhoff

Last year during our church’s Easter service, the pastor asked the children what the day was about. Naturally, most of the kids shouted, “candy!”. It’s hard to argue with that enthusiasm. In my opinion, Easter candy is the most fun of all the seasons. Growing up, we didn’t get much in the way of Easter baskets, but as an adult I get an amazing spread from my mother-in-law. It’s become one of my favorite days of the year, especially now that it coincides with my oldest daughter’s birthday. My basket favorites include malted milk eggs, Peeps, and of course, the Cadbury Cream Egg. And, lucky us, we’ve got some incredible local candy options. I love the monogrammed chocolate bunnies from Laura Little’s, and Mely’s has some amazingly beautiful sugar eggs that I love to stare at. What’s your favorite Easter candy?
