2010 SM East grad celebrates NCAA D-III basketball championship

Former Lancer Alison Stephens got to hold an NCAA title trophy after her Depauw University team won the D-III basketball championship.

March Madness may not officially tip off until later this week, but one former SM East student has already enjoyed some of the fun of NCAA tournament basketball.

Alison Stephens, a 2010 SM East grad, got to hoist the NCAA Division 3 women’s basketball title trophy Saturday after she and her Depauw University teammates capped off a perfect season with a 69-51 championship victory over Wisconsin – Whitewater.

The Tigers finished the year 34-0. Stephens had a particularly good game in the tournament quarterfinals, when the 5’11” guard/forward snagged 11 rebounds in a win over Christopher Newport.

Stephens’ mother Betsy and stepfather Charlie Vasey live in Prairie Village. Her father Craig Stephens lives in Brookside.
