In addition to his base salary, Hinson will receive $25,000 per year contribution to a tax-sheltered annuity account. He also will receive a car allowance of $9,000 per year and a cell phone allowance of $720 per year. He is eligible for a $5,000 moving allowance. Hinson is now superintendent in Independence.

For time off, Hinson will get winter break and spring break days on the school calendar plus another 30 days of paid vacation each contract year. The compensation will be reviewed each year during the contract and could be increased.

By comparison, retiring superintendent Dr. Gene Johnson receives a base of $226,950 with a $16,000 annuity contribution and the same car and phone allowances that Hinson will receive.

Hinson takes over for Johnson on July 1. Johnson is retiring after 27 years with the district, the last five as superintendent.

The school board unanimously approved the contract in a special board meeting Wednesday afternoon with that as the single agenda item.
