Weekend of wins for SM East basketball, wrestling, swim and dive

The swim and dive team celebrates its tenth consecutive league title.

It was a wild – and rewarding – weekend for SM East’s winter sports teams:

  • The boys and girls basketball teams both pulled out squeakers on the road at Lawrence High School. The girls topped the Lions 54-47 by power through the final minute of the game, scoring seven points and holding Lawrence to none.
  • The boys secured their 55-53 win on a closing-seconds jumper from senior Zach Schneider. The win improves the boys to 12-1 on the season.
  • The wrestling team went a perfect 4-0 at Friday’s district meet, taking home a victory.
  • And finally — though not surprisingly — the boys swim and dive team wrapped up its tenth consecutive Sunflower League title Saturday. Senior Troy DeMoss won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. His 200-yard IM performance set a new Sunflower League record. Junior Zack Holbrook won the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle events, setting a Sunflower League record in the 50. SM East’s relay teams took first in both the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle events.
