41 Action News reports that a 3-year-old Mission boy was shot at his father’s apartment Thursday afternoon and is in critical condition.

The bullet went through the boy’s left arm and hit his abdomen.

Police Capt. David Moloy told KSHB that they were still investigating the incident, but that investigators had heard that the gun was being cleaned at the time of the shooting.

The gun was “out and available” when the boy was shot. The boy is being treated at Children’s Mercy Hospital.

The incident occurred at the Bridges at Foxridge apartments just east of 53rd Street and Metcalf Avenue before 3 p.m.
