Water main repair will cause more detours on Mission Road Friday

Cars were forced to take detours off Mission Road all day Thursday on account of a water main break.

A water main break that made for sluggish traffic along Mission Road Thursday will cause additional detours today.

WaterOne, Johnson County’s water utility, was forced to close Mission Road near 86th Street almost all day Thursday on account of the main break, which occurred sometime around 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Detours at 83rd Street and 95th Street were put in place, but many cars were rerouted down 85th Street and Reinhardt Lane. The break left several people in the surrounding area without water or with limited water pressure.

Crews worked all day Thursday to dig up the section of road where the break occurred and patch it. The road was partially reopened Thursday night after 6 p.m., but workers on the scene of the break Thursday night said a paving crew would close off Mission Road yet again Friday morning sometime before 8 a.m. to begin putting down asphalt.

The repaving work is likely to be completed by 1 p.m. or so, the workers said.

UPDATED: Prairie Village sent out a message at 11 a.m. saying Mission should reopen by 4 p.m. Friday.
