With a flick of the switch, holiday spirit shines at Corinth Square

The crowd cheered as Mayor Ron Shaffer finished the count down for the lighting of the Mayor’s Holiday Tree at Corinth Square.

Pleasant temperatures and a shiny new “pocket park” drew a sizable Santa-hungry crowd to Corinth Square Thursday for the 27th annual lighting of the Mayor’s Holiday Tree.

Mayor Ron Shaffer performed his traditional emcee duties, welcoming performers from Dancerz Unlimted and the SM East choir to the stage before Kris Kringle himself came up to help light the tree.

Shaffer chose two children from the crowd to help count down from ten, after which Santa flipped a switch that set the colorful lights on the new Norway pine at Corinth’s southwest corner shining.

Dozens of merchants at Corinth and the Village Shops help open houses to coincide with the even, with many collecting donations for the Mayor’s Holiday Tree Fund.
