Rathbun named Sunflower League soccer MVP, fellow Lancers crowd First Team lists

Tyler Rathbun is Sunflower League offensive MVP and Northeast Regional Player of the Year.

The Lancers boys soccer team may not have made it to the state title game they coveted — but that hasn’t curbed enthusiasm for the dominating season their senior-heavy roster piled up.

Both the Sunflower League and the Northeast 6-A Regional division released their First and Second Team lists this week, and SM East’s standout players were more than well represented.

Forward Tyler Rathbun led the team in recognition, making both the Sunflower League and Northeast Regional First Team lists, as well as being named Sunflower League Most Valuable Player on Offense, and the Northeast Regional Player of the Year.

Fellow seniors Bryce McClanahan, midfield, Clint Dunn, midfield, and Jack Sernett, defense, made the both the First Team Sunflower League and Northeast Regionals lists, as well.

Senior defender Matt Terry made the First Team Sunflower League list and the Second Team Northeast Regional list.

Senior goalie G.J. Melia made the Second Team on both lists.

Junior forward Noah Eidemiller made the Sunflower League Second Team.

And both Jackson Stephens and Carter Olander made the Sunflower League Honorable Mention lists.

And – I’m going to go out on a limb here — more accolades are likely to come. The All State Teams are being finalized today. Gotta think a couple of these kickin’ Lancers will show up there as well…

Congrats again on a terrific season. (And thanks to Michael Manalo for the pics)

Senior co-captain Jack Sernett gained recognition for his performance as a defender.
