SM East softball squad makes national All-Academic Teams list

The Lancers 2012 softball team has even more to celebrate than a state-tournament appearance: It recently made the national All-Academic Teams list.

We’re still months away from a return to action on the diamond, but SM East’s softball team has a recent reason to celebrate.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association last week released its All-Academic Team Rankings for both the college and high school level — and the Lancers made the top five for high schools with a weighted GPA system.

SM East’s softball team had a team average GPA of 4.166, putting them fifth in the country. Alexander Central High School in North Carolina topped the list with a 4.3 GPA. Washburn Rural High School in Kansas made the list as well, coming in fourth overall with a 4.185.

In the non-weighted high school GPA category, Olathe North took first in the nation with a 3.89 team average.
