New Starbucks going up at Ranchmart South

The building under construction at Ranchmart South will be a new Starbucks.

A shawneemissionpost.com reader shot us an inquiry about the new construction in the parking lot at Ranchmart South shopping center. The building that is now in progress will be a new drive-through Starbucks, according to the Overland Park Planning Department.

Although the property sits in Overland Park, a reader with a good arm could throw a rock into either Leawood or Prairie Village from there. The new Starbucks is being constructed in the parking lot to the front of the Ranchmart Ace Hardware, south of 95th Street and east of Mission Road.

The plans, approved by the Overland Park Planning Commission in April, show the drive-through lanes on the north side of the building, closer to 95th Street. The staff review concluded that the heaviest drive-through traffic would be in the mornings when other stores in the center are not yet generating traffic flow.

Cars will move to the west on the drive-through and plans show a patio on the east end of the building. The nearest Starbucks are at 8800 Metcalf, the Prairie Village shops, and 85th and State Line.

Elevation drawings of the building submitted with the city of Overland Park.
