1-0 loss to Olathe South denies Lancers Sunflower soccer title

SM East’s Bryce McClanahan dribbled past a SM Northwest defender in last week’s game.

A two overtime 1-0 loss on Tuesday halted the SM East boys soccer team’s remarkable winning streak — and took away a Sunflower League regular season title.

Olathe South’s goalie kept the Lancers’ typically prolific offense off the board, stopping many SM East shots and giving his team time to find the back of the Lancers’ net.

The loss puts SM East at 9-2 in the league. Olathe East, which handed them their first loss of the season on Sept. 11, secured the Sunflower League title with the Lancers’ loss.

The Lancers won both of their games last week, taking out SM Northwest 1-0 and SM West 5-1 in the lead up to the definitive game against Olathe South.

The Lancers have one last regular season game — against top-ranked Blue Valley Northwest on Friday — before regionals play begins next Tuesday.
