Food on Friday: Smashed on pumpkin

It’s time for my yearly Pumpkin Extravaganza, when everything I eat contains pumpkin and/or nutmeg and/or candy corn. Still, I always have to laugh at beverages that imply pumpkin is an actual ingredient – pumpkin lattes, pumpkin beer, pumpkin vodka (it probably exists, right?), etc… Obviously none of these beverages include actual pumpkin – that would be incredibly disgusting. But I, like so many Americans, don’t really feel like fall has arrived until I’ve had my first Pumpkin Spice Latte at my local coffee shop. There’s just something about that spice combination that makes me want to break out my red flannel shirt and fall into a big pile of leaves.

So when I ran into this recipe I knew I had to try it, especially when we were invited to a beer dinner (5 courses paired with beer = amazing). It was everything I hoped it would be – creamy, spicy, and the perfect fall dessert (Other than pumpkin bars. Really, nothing beats a good pumpkin bar). I made my own bourbon ice cream to pair with this, but I think vanilla would be just as good. Or maybe even pumpkin – it’s that time of year!

Pumpkin Beer Floats

Pour pumpkin beer over a glass filled with ice cream. Enjoy while watching a football game, carving a pumpkin, or cozying up by a nice fire.
