Belinder students hit the pavement for 10th annual Walkathon

Fifth grader Walter Honnold 5th grade got an autograph from Sporting KC’s Teal Bunbury during a Walkathon break.

Belinder Elementary students packed the pavement Friday for the school’s 10th annual Belinder Walkathon. The event raises money to support the school and focuses on exercise and health while giving students a sense of accomplishment for helping out.

Sporting KC forward Teal Bunbury (sidelined with an injured knee) added a celebrity flair and was a popular autograph when students took a break from their laps around quarter-mile track behind the school. Proceeds from the Walkathon supplement the Race for Excellence fund which pays for a social worker and math aides.

Belinder, 7230 Belinder Road, is in its 61st year of operation. Tiffonie Dirks and Allison Sandstrom were co-chairs of the event.
