First a victory at the Prairie Pride 5K, then off to his wedding

There was fierce competition for position at the start of the one-mile fun run at Saturday’s Prairie Pride races.
Lee Dixon couldn’t stay for the medal ceremony – he had to get to his wedding.

Lee Dixon had a good reason for running fast at Saturday’s second annual Prairie Pride 5K: He had a wedding to get ready for…his own.

Dixon and his groomsmen started the big day off with a brisk run on a crisp, picture perfect September morning, with Dixon, 27, taking the overall win at 17:49.1. Not too shabby. Stephanie Zampieri, 36, of Prairie Village finished first among the women at 22:44.2.

For the rest of us getting-less-and-less-young adults, however, the event turned into an episode of “Are You Humbled by a Fifth Grader?”

The answer for this writer/runner: Yes. Indeed. Very much so.

Full race results are here. Kudos to the planning crew for putting on a beautiful event — and for choosing such a beautiful day.
