Lancers face tough competition at Baldwin City XC meet

Junior Annie Kuklenski had the best showing for the Lancers girls.

Running really fast for long distances is hard. Just ask the SM East boys and girls cross country teams, who faced an impressive cadre of competition at last weekend’s Baldwin City Invitational meet.

The Lancers varsity boys team finished fifth out of the seven teams competing. The girls finished seventh out of eight teams.

Facing stiffer competition that he’d seen thus far, SM East’s standout runner Chipper Jorns finished eighth overall at 16:51.22, a pace of about 5:09 per mile. Baldwin’s Ethan Hartzell took first at 16:14.93. Senior Joe Bahr has the second best time among the Lancers boys, finishing in eleventh place at 16:59.84.

On the girls side, SM East’s Annie Kuklenski, a junior, had the best showing. She finished seventeenth overall at 16:08.93.
