A former Lancer soccer standout had a very good week at the college level.

Washington and Lee University sophomore Zach Colby was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference men’s soccer player of the week last week after scoring five goals in the team’s opening two games of the season. He scored three in a 4-2 win over Bethany and another two in a 3-0 win over Moravian.

It’s a breakout start to the season for Colby, who played in just seven games as a freshman. The school’s website said he would “compete for playing time at midfield” this year.

At SM East, Colby was a three-year letterman in soccer, and earned additional letters in lacrosse and track. He was soccer team captain his senior year, and made the all-conference and all-state first teams. He also led his club team, the KCFC Rangers, to five Kansas championships.
