SM East led the district’s five high schools in 2012 with an average composite score of 25.5. That’s up from 25.2 in 2011 and 25.3 in 2010. The district average this year was 24.0, which significantly surpasses both the national average of 21.1 and the Kansas average of 21.9.
What’s more, SM East’s scores made it the top-performer among all Kansas City area public high schools. Blue Valley North was second in the metro with a composite average of 25.3.
Among 2012’s graduating seniors, SM East’s Christian Wiles was just one of 14 students in the state and two in the Shawnee Mission district to score a perfect 36 on the test, a feat which has never been achieved by more than .045 percent of ACT test takers in any given year.
The other Shawnee Mission high schools’ composite scores were as follows: SM Northwest, 24.1; SM South, 23.9; SM West, 23.1; and SM North, 22.2.
