Congressman Yoder’s nude dip into Sea of Galilee draws national media attention

U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder, whose district includes all of northeast Johnson County, is attracting quite a bit of national media attention today — but not the kind the freshman congressman typically seeks.

News broke yesterday that the FBI has been looking into Yoder’s behavior during a fact-finding mission to the Holy Land last August. After a night out in Israel, Yoder took off his clothes and jumped into the Sea of Galilee. Other members of congress and people accompanying them on the trip jumped into the sea as well, but news reports suggest Yoder was the only one to do so fully nude.

He sent the following statement on the incident to POLITICO:

“A year ago, my wife, Brooke, and I joined colleagues for dinner at the Sea of Galilee in Israel. After dinner I followed some Members of Congress in a spontaneous and very brief dive into the sea and regrettably I jumped into the water without a swimsuit. It is my greatest honor to represent the people of Kansas in Congress and [for] any embarrassment I have caused for my colleagues and constituents, I apologize.”
