‘Brush With Kindness’ volunteers brave heat, fix up Prairie Village house

Prairie Village’s innovative approach to improving homes that have fallen into disrepair was back in action this week.

On Wednesday, volunteers from United Methodist Church of the Resurrection gave their time – and elbow grease — to spruce up a home in Ward III that had started to violate property codes.

The volunteers removed five dead trees from the backyard, repaired a walkway, railings and the front porch, painted the garage and removed dead and overgrowth vegetation in the back yard — all in temperatures that warranted an excessive heat warning.

The program that makes the repairs possible, called “A Brush with Kindness,” is a partnership between Heartland Habitat for Humanity and the Prairie Village Municipal Foundation. Habitat arranges volunteers to work on the projects. The Municipal Foundation supplies the funds necessary for supplies and equipment.
