PV-based agricultural tech company scores $1 million in new funding

It’s fair to say that the co-founders of Prairie Village-based AgLocal may be on to something.

AgLocal announced late last week that it had secured $1,000,000 in new seed money. Investors include Andreessen Horowitz, the venture capital firm led in part by Marc Andreessen, the engineer who developed Netscape’s product before the company went public in 1994.

AgLocal is working to develop a web-based trading platform that will allow independent farmers and producers sell their products directly to local businesses and consumers. It plans to use the seed capital to hire more product engineers, who will likely work out of Silicon Valley, though the base of operations is expected to remain in the Kansas City area.

The service is still under development, and is expected to launch later this year.
