Construction crews in Fairway are at work putting in a new section of sidewalk from the west side of the 5600 block of Mission Road south to the city limit at 63rd Street — and it serves as an interesting point of reference in the ongoing trails debate in Prairie Village.
At five feet, the width required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, the new section is a foot wider than the sidewalk that had been there before.
In Prairie Village, a number of residents and elected officials have suggested that a six-feet-wide sidewalk would be considerably more palatable than the eight-feet-wide paths suggested in the Parks Master Plan.
What do you think: Would six-feet-wide sidewalks — just a foot wider than what’s going in along Mission Road — serve as attractive connecting paths for walkers, joggers and casual bikers throughout Prairie Village?
