Some Prairie students and their parents aren’t letting the change in seasons stop them from the fun of growing things. In fact, they’re starting their own farms over the winter: worm farms.
The school’s HiP Club (“i can make a Health Planet”) hosted Eco Troubador Stan Slaughter in the Prairie library a couple weeks ago to get the low down on vermicomposting — more commonly known as worm farming.
Volunteers and students are building vermicomposting bins for each grade to use and observe. The worms will be used in the school’s compost bins, which will be used to help fertilize the garden next spring.
