U.S. Bank at Village Shops robbed by man in woman’s wig

Share this story:

FBI officers are searching for a man who robbed the U.S. Bank location at the Village Shops Tuesday afternoon — dressed as a woman.

Security camera footage shows a man in what appears to be a shoulder-length curly-haired wig at the teller’s station around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. The FBI says the man did not show a weapon.

The robbery is the fourth among area banks this year and the second at the Village Shops. Great Southern Bank on 95th Street was robbed Jan. 19, First National Bank in Fairway was robbed Feb. 25, and Missouri Bank and Trust was robbed April 11 in incidents that may have been perpetrated by the same man.

The U.S. Bank robbery appears to have been carried out by a different culprit —  one who may have been active in other nearby areas recently. The Kansas City Star reports that a black man wearing women’s clothing or hairstyles carried out robberies in Roeland Park and at the Country Club Plaza in the past two months.
