Mission Valley appears to be on its way off the Shawnee Mission School District’s asset list. And Somerset Elementary may not be far behind.
District spokeswoman Leigh Anne Neal confirmed last week that the district has received one bid for the shuttered school at Somerset Drive and Belinder Avenue, and that it was possible more may come in before tonight’s Board of Education meeting.
The offer that the district has in hand is from a real estate developer, but the offer amount is not yet known. As with Mission Valley, the district had a professional real estate appraisal conducted on the property after the district decided to put it up for sale. The outside appraisal came in at $840,000. The county appraiser’s office values the site at $2,687,880, with the land valued at $321,000 and the school building and other improvements valued at $2,366,240.
The Shawnee Mission School Board at its meeting Monday may take up the issue of how to proceed with the offer, though no item was present on the agenda sent to reporters last week. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the McEachen Administrative Center, 7235 Antioch.
