SM East grad signs contract with Chicago White Sox

Jeff Soptic
SM East standout pitcher and current JCCC Cavalier Jeff Soptic has signed a professional baseball contract with the Chicago White Sox, according to Baseball America.

Soptic, whose fastball has been clocked at over 100 mph, had a scholarship to play at the University of Missouri the next two years, but will forgo the opportunity after signing the professional contract.

The Sox signed Soptic for $320,000, about $40,000 more than what someone selected at Soptic’s level in the draft might expect. Spotic was selected in the third round of June’s Major League Baseball draft.
