After giving up a late-inning lead against Maize Saturday morning in a game that would have advanced them to the state title matchup, the SM East Lancers bounced back Saturday afternoon to defeat Lawrence High School and secure third place in the tournament.

The Lions got out to an early lead, going up 5-2 through two innings. But a big fifth inning, during which the Lancers scored eight runs off a Lawrence reliever, secured the win for SM East. The Lancers won 13-11.

Maize, which beat SM East 7-6 in eight innings Saturday morning, completed an undefeated season in the championship game by beating Blue Valley West 10-0 in a game that was shortened by the run rule.
