Belinder families make generous gift through Peace Corps volunteer in Africa

If you happen to find yourself in Manza, Zambia in the next couple years, don’t be surprised if you come across a soccer team wearing Belinder Braves t-shirts.

Grayson Bauers, a former student of Belinder teacher Chitra Gowdamarajan, recent served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Zambia. To help support his efforts in the remote village where he lived and worked for more than two years, Belinder families collected soccer balls, cleats, and, of course, some Belinder Braves t-shirts.

The school also sent paper, crayons and toothpaste.

Bauers made a stop by Gowdamarian’s class earlier this after having completed his service, and shared his Peace Corps story with the students. The t-shirts now serve as their soccer jerseys, he said, and they keep the soccer balls and cleats locked up to protect them.
