Your weekend planner: Plenty of fun in Prairie Village Saturday

A scene from Earth Fairs past.

We’re hoping the weather cooperates for a couple of big events in the heart of Prairie Village tomorrow:

The annual Steps for the Cure 5K run and 1 mile walk starts at the Village Shops at 8 a.m. More than 700 participants are expected to take to the course. (If you haven’t registered yet and want to take part, you’re in luck: race day registrations are accepted. The cost is $30 for adults and $15 for kids under 15). Proceeds got to benefit Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland.

The race is just the beginning of the fun, though. More than 200 car and motorcycle enthusiasts are brining their prized possessions to the Village Shops and Brighton Gardens for a car show and parade. There will be music and a picnic at Brighton Gardens as part of the celebration. Police escorts will lead a parade of classic cars through the surrounding neighborhoods in the afternoon.

And if that weren’t enough to keep you (and us) busy, the 10th Annual Prairie Village Earth Fair will be at SM East from 10 to 3 p.m. The event will feature display booths from earth-friendly companies, demonstrations on green activitie, like buidling your own compost pile, and even a car show of its own. Modified green vehicles from MAEAA and a variety of bikes from Bike America will be on display.
