- In the Shawnee Mission School District at-large board position primary, the question isn’t so much who will move on as who will stay behind. Three of the four candidates on the primary ballot will make it to the general election. With a well orchestrated campaign and the support of many of the parents involved in the Save Mission Valley group, Bart Altenbernd appears a secure choice to make it out of the primary. Joan Leavens, the only candidate not from the SM East area, would seem to have a good shot as well, since she’s likely to attract a good deal of support from voters in the SM South area, where she lives. That means former Fairway Mayor John St. Clair and former Fairway city councilman Mark Anderson may be the two most vulnerable to missing the cut. - In the Fairway Ward 3 City Council primary, two of three candidates will emerge and head to the general election. The candidates are incumbent Tony Liu and challengers Bobby Vickers, Jr., and Blake Reeves. Reeves hasn’t waged an active campaign, failing to respond to inquiries about his platform from both the Prairie Village Post and Kansas City Star.
