A man entered the First National Bank on Shawnee Mission Parkway across from the Fairway Shops Thursday morning brandishing a gun and demanded cash from the teller.
The robbery took place at 9:50 a.m. The Federal Bureau of Investigation reports that when the suspect fled, a red dye packet in one of the money bundles went off, staining the cash. Some of the stained money was found in the bank parking lot when police arrived. The bank is literally less than a fifth of a mile away from the Fairway Police Department.
Fox 4 Kansas City reports that the suspect is a black male in his mid-20s to early 30s. He was wearing a blue and black hooded jacket with the words “New York” printed on the back.
This is the second bank robbery in the area in the past month and a half. The Great Southern Bank on 95th Street in Prairie Village was robbed Jan. 19.
