Recent Kansas City Star addition Steve Rose singled out former Fairway Mayor John St. Clair as a strong candidate for the Shawnee Mission School Board in a column Wednesday.
The column, which included an interview with retiring board member Larry Winn, suggested most of those running for Winn’s seat are “single-issue” candidate trying to appeal to patrons’ discontent with the school closings.
Though the column didn’t include a formal endorsement, Rose did give St. Clair high praise in a closing paragraph:
One candidate, in my opinion, stands out above the rest. That is John St. Clair. He is a former mayor of Fairway, which gives him the political background to deal with the politics of the school district; he is a longtime member of Shawnee Mission’s Committee for Excellence, which indicates a strong dedication to the district; and St. Clair is a business consultant, a financial background badly needed on the school board.
