School district announces Allen, Rasmussen will lead Indian Hills for 2011-2012 school year

Current Indian Hills Middle School principal Carla Allen will retain her role next year after Mission Valley Middle School has closed and the two schools’ student bodies have been consolidated, the Shawnee Mission School District announced today.

Mike Rasmussen, the current assistant principal at Mission Valley, will become the assistant principal at Indian Hills.

A press release issued by the district today did not mention new assignments for current Mission Valley principal Susie Ostmeyer or Indian Hills assistant principal Brenda Hall.

One of the primary cost savings cited by superintendent Gene Johnson in proposing the closure of both Mission Valley and Antioch Middle Schools was the reduction in staff costs.

The district also announced that the position of associate superintendent for elementary services being vacated by Bill Frick, who is retiring, will not be filled. But current  Hocker Grove Middle School prinicipal Debbie Pfortmiller, will “work directly with elementary principals and be responsible for daily operations of elementary schools, administrative evaluations, and communication with elementary parents.”

The administrative moves will be officially introduced at the Feb. 28 school board meeting.
